MESSAGE FROM THE MAYOR
"Join us to the new era of recycling"
Recycling has reached your neighborhood! This is your opportunity to "join us to the new era of recycling" and decisively contribute to environmental protection, ensuring a better future for our city and next generations.
The initial recycling system planning, including the placement of new blue bins for the collection of recyclable materials has been completed and covers Larissa, Giannouli, Falani and the Social Housing conglomerate of Giannouli. In the future, as planned, it will be expanded to cover Koilada.
In these areas the Department of Environment of Waste Management-Environment Division of Municipality of Larissa, has placed 1.743 blue recycling bins. The collected items in these bins include recyclable materials, namely paperand cardboard packaging materials of food and detergents, aluminum and metallic cans of soft drinks, beer, food eta, glass containers like bottles of beer, wine, food jars eta, plastic containers like bottles of water, milk, juice, food, personal care and detergent products an plastic packaging materials of all kinds.
All these materials are not trash to be berried. They can be reused conserving raw materials, energy, polluting less the environment. Your contribution will be the separate collection at home from normal trash of these materials and their transfer to the blue bins, in loose, as they say. For the transportation to the blue bins you can reuse the 54.996 special bags already delivered at the aforementioned areas or alternatively use common garbage bags.
Dear fellow citizens, the Municipal Authority of Larissa, in addition to the continuous upgrading of the Waste Management System and via its leading role to the Hellenic Solid Waste Management Association (responsible for the operation of the Regional landfill) and the collection and recycling of waste materials (including paper, plastic, glass, old vehicles and tires and car batteries), aims at making its territory one of the cleanest areas of the country.
Respecting your sensitivity and concern for our city and the environment in which we and future generations live and prosper, I appeal to you all to personally get involved in our recycling program.
Do not hesitate even for a moment to "open your door to recycling".
As I am confident of your engagement and cooperation to this new challenge, I gratefully thank you.
The Mayor of Larissa
